Job Description:

Purpose of the Role:

  • To plan and deliver a range of community based programmes to increase participation in sport and physical activity amongst young people and adults in Newham.
  • The post holder will report to the Sport and Physical Activity Manager and will form part of the Community Activation Team based at the activeNewham Head Office in Stratford.
  • The nature of community engagement work will mean the post holder may be required to work some evenings and weekends as part of the role.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • To oversee the day to day running of the Neighbourhood Sports Programme.
  • To develop the Disability Sport offer in the borough.
  • To facilitate the delivery of sport and physical activity programmes during the school holidays.
  • To be responsible for specific projects as appropriate, ensuring they are delivered to the highest standards.
  • To develop new and innovative ways to increase participation and tackle inactivity in Newham.
  • To effectively market and promote activities and events in order to engage residents.
  • To work with Primary, Secondary, Further Education and Higher Education institutions in Newham to engage their students.
  • To manage existing partnerships with external stakeholders such as the London Borough of Newham, StreetGames, and London Sport.
  • To work with National Governing Bodies, including the Lawn Tennis Association and the Essex CCC to develop opportunities to increase participation in specific focus sports.
  • To attend local and regional meetings, workshops and conferences as required.
  • To supervise coaches, instructors and volunteers who assist with the delivery of sport and activity programmes and events.
  • To ensure external providers engaged on activeNewham programmes deliver high quality and cost-effective services.
  • To be responsible for preparing, managing and monitoring programme budgets.
  • To identify and support external funding applications to enhance the sport and physical activity offer.
  • To produce and present reports and key performance indicators to demonstrate the impact of programmes against targets and objectives.
  • To assist with ensuring compliance with appropriate legislation and regulations, including Health and Safety.
  • To undertake training and development as required.
